Lodo

2026

Graça Santos is a visual artist and bookseller who lives and works in Lisbon. In her work of analog collage, fundamentally based on the process of destruction-creation, she explores the deconstruction of pre-existing narrative images and the questions that arise from it.

João Godinho, a composer and author of radio programs based in Lisbon, is interested in the exploration of sound as an expressive vehicle and the musical diversity of humanity.

The prolonged exposure of a set of slides (35 mm) to mud, resulting from two consecutive floods in a short period of time (Lisbon, December 2022), caused the corrosion of a collection of photographic images of the family and their inherent narrative, maintaining only the support, the film.

What happens to photography when its semiotic reading is destroyed? Without interfering with the result of the unintentional corrosion caused uncontrollably by the elements present in the sludge, this destruction is assumed to be an involuntary creative act, an accident that returns it to the status of raw material. In the “NO LODO” residency, in collaboration with XYZ, a work of curation and manipulation of the found material will be developed, proposing new visual narratives based on the duality of image-narrative / image-material.
