Intergaláctica:
Books for the Culture without borders
Intergaláctica: books for the culture without borders, is a transnational project which connects institutions and artists, across four different countries: Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands and Italy. The project created four photobooks as multi diverse objects of art, which transmutes the materiality of the book into the walls of exhibitions and the digital world. In order to do so, four artistic residencies took place, and one of them was selected through an open call which was launched at European level, involving artists and creators such as photographers, curators and designers. Through curatorial and design work, the archives of a group of photographers focusing on European Union cross-cutting issues gained a visual story-telling narrative. This also provided an exchange of experiences among different visual artists, allowing for the transfer of knowledge and capacity building between the participants. This project aimed to strengthen the cultural tradition of knowledge sharing through the use of artbooks, workshops which are at the core of the European modern and contemporary art tradition, by claiming an important cultural role in re-thinking and communicating the contemporary world through visual narratives. The different formats assumed by the artworks allowed for their wide dissemination through Europe and beyond. All of the aforementioned residencies carried workshops with the resident artists where the public from broad social backgrounds had an opportunity to meet, discuss and engage in a creative way. A series of talks was issued online, highlighting pressing topics and creating space for discussion without borders.
