Bénédicte Blondeau
Ondes
2025
Bénédicte Blondeau is a lens-based artist from Belgium. Her practice explores perception and the way our gaze shapes the world we inhabit. Through her photographic work, she explores how lived experience continuously reshapes the way we see and interpret reality. Her images function as reflections on observation itself - an invitation to question what we perceive and to engage with the invisible dimensions of experience. An autobiographical aspect is inherent in her approach, as her projects often arise from personal transitions that inform her vision of the world.
Her recent project, «Ondes», continues this investigation by addressing the unseen energies that shape and connect all forms of life. Initiated during a period marked by both the loss of her father and the forthcoming birth of her child, the work explores the resonance between these experiences through visual research conducted in geologically transformative landscapes - glaciers, caves, and volcanic grounds - combined with ultrasound and microscopic imagery. During her residency with XYZ Books, the project evolved into a photobook that reflects on transformation and continuity. «Ondes» is a photobook winner at the Belfast Photo Festival and the Photometria Festival. The series has been exhibited at Contretype (Brussels), the Biennale de la Photographie de Mulhouse, and at the Itinéraires des Photographes Voyageurs (Bordeaux) and SCAN Tarragona (ES) festivals, among others.
