Plants, Sand, Sea

Laura Sperl & Michaela Putz

Exhibition Opening

Laura Sperl and Michaela Putz, both visual artists working at the interface between analog and digital processes. While Michaela Putz uses digital images as a starting point, which in her current series „Extinction Ballads“ are further transformed into analog collages and juxtaposed with papers that, once herbarium specimens, still carry the marks of the plants, Laura Sperl digitally captures the process of change in her photo/chemigrams.

Both works deal with the trace of natural processes of change: sand, water, sun and plants inscribe themselves into the images through time and light - and develop their own life in chemical processes as well as through the collaging of images of extinct plants.

The uncontrollable in the form of natural influences is inherent in both positions. Ephemeral phenomena result in abstracted, organic pictorial worlds, which always refer to something concrete.
